Uzbekistan plans to purchase 23 electric trains for suburban routes in Tashkent

In December, the first high-speed Hyundai Rotem trains will arrive, which will run from Bukhara to Nukus.

As Spot previously wrote, on November 13, Shavkat Mirziyoyev was presented with information about the work being done in the railway industry and plans for the coming years.

Transport Minister Ilkhom Makhkamov, in an interview with Oʻzbekiston 24 TV channel, announced the president’s instructions to implement large infrastructure projects. To connect the agglomeration of the Tashkent region with the capital, as well as regional centers with remote areas, it is planned to build railway lines for electric trains on 23 routes. This will increase the mobility and speed of movement of the population entering large cities every day, the head of the Ministry of Transport noted.

The first South Korean high-speed Hyundai Rotem trains are expected to be delivered from December. They will run along the route Bukhara - Miskin - Urgench - Nukus. The first train from Tashkent to Khiva is scheduled to launch in 2026.

In addition, Uzbekistan plans to purchase 23 electric trains to connect Tashkent and the capital’s agglomeration. The President gave instructions to speed up this process.

The day before, it became known about plans to build new electrified railway lines on the routes Nurafshan - Pskent - Buka - Bekabad - Bayavut - Yangier and Khavast - Dashtabad. It is also planned to electrify the routes Kumkurgan - Kudukli, Samarkand - Urgut and Baytkurgan - Parkent.

It is proposed to add 15 new ones to the existing 40 commuter routes.

In particular, suburban services will be organized along the following routes:

  • Tashkent - Nurafshan - Akhangaran - Angren;
  • Navoi - Zarafshan - Uchkuduk;
  • Kagan - Namangan - Andijan - Margilan;
  • Termez - Kumkurgan - Baysun - Darband;
  • Nukus - Shavat - Urgench - Khiva;
  • Jizzakh - Dustlik - Aidar-Arnasay;
  • Karshi - Shakhrisabz.

In September, Shavkat Mirziyoyev ordered to connect all districts of the Tashkent region with the capital by high-speed electric trains.

Suburban trains

On December 3, 2024, a modern electric train EP3D produced by the Russian Transmashholding began running between Tashkent and Khojikent. The train is designed for 586 passengers and can reach speeds of up to 120 km/h. The ticket price will be 20,000 soums for the general fare and 11,500 soums for the children`s fare.

Uzzheldorpass reported that in the future it is planned to purchase 10 modern trains. At the same time, regular electric trains will also run according to the previously approved schedule.

On December 6 last year, Shavkat Mirziyoyev traveled on a new train. The President instructed to straighten the winding sections of the Tashkent-Khodzhikent line in order to increase the frequency of flights, as well as to include the areas along the railway in the renovation program.

In January of this year, a railway station was opened in Chinarkent, to which a branch line leads from Khodzhikent, 1.5 km away. At the same time, construction began on the new Baitkurgan-Parkent railway.

In June it became known that almost 24 km of rails had already been laid on the Baitkurgan-Parkent railway. According to calculations, up to 275 thousand passengers per day will be able to travel along this route.

Earlier, Spot wrote that Mirziyoyev instructed Uzbekistan Temir Yollari to reduce tariffs and costs by 20%.
