An international industrial cooperation center will be created on the border between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan

According to the international news agency Kazinform, the agreement implements the decision of the 20th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Bilateral Cooperation between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.

“The center will be located near the Atameken (Kazakhstan) and Gulistan (Uzbekistan) checkpoints and will include production sites, warehouses, and transport infrastructure, which will speed up cargo transportation, reduce logistics costs, reduce the number of participants in the supply chain, reduce the final cost of products for consumers, increase the speed of deliveries and develop production cooperation within the North-South corridor,” said Arman Shakkaliyev, Minister of Trade and Integration of Kazakhstan.

The total area of the facility will be 100 hectares, of which 50 hectares are the Kazakh part, 50 hectares are the Uzbek part. A certain territory will be assigned the status of a regional industrial zone. The territory will be used to implement the Global Textile project for the production of finished textile products.

It is noted that the infrastructure of the center will be built at the expense of extra-budgetary funds. The Akimat of the Turkestan region held an open competition and identified the main investor, who is currently developing design and estimate documentation to provide the Center with the necessary infrastructure.

“Technical and construction work is planned to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2026, and the official opening is scheduled for the first half of 2027,” the published article says. “The center will provide support in the creation of new industries and jobs, processing of agricultural and industrial products, development of mechanical engineering, metalworking, pharmaceuticals, electrical engineering, chemical, leather, textile and clothing industries.”
