A new cargo terminal with a capacity of 120,000 tons per year, four times more than the previous one, has opened at Tashkent International Airport. The new complex is equipped with modern equipment and specialized storage areas.

A new cargo terminal with a capacity of 120,000 tons per year has opened at Tashkent International Airport, Gazeta.uz reports.

The complex is located on an area of 5.2 hectares and includes warehouses, a three-story administrative building and a parking area for cars.

The area of the warehouse is 8,500 square meters, of which 500 square meters are allocated for refrigeration and freezing chambers for storing goods that require maintaining a certain temperature regime.

The terminal has specialized areas for storing plants, live animals, valuable goods, food and medicine. All premises are equipped with temperature sensors for temperature control.

According to Uzbekistan Airports Cargo, the cargo complex of Tashkent airport previously consisted of 20 outdated warehouse and administrative buildings built in 1994-2000. Their total throughput capacity was 30 thousand tons per year, while in 2024 the airport handled about 80 thousand tons of cargo and mail. In this regard, a decision was made to modernize the cargo terminal, and on March 20, a phased transition from the old premises to the new complex began.

Head of the Cargo Development Department of Uzbekistan Airports Kamoliddin Bukharov noted that currently the Tashkent airport handles an average of 200-250 tons of cargo per day. Of these, 80 tons are stored in warehouses, and the remaining 120-150 tons are placed outdoors. According to him, the volume of processed cargo will increase.

Modern equipment was purchased for the warehouse, including racking, lifting and packaging mechanisms, as well as accounting, automation and security systems.

The new administrative building with an area of 3,000 square meters includes an operating room with an electronic queue for consignees, as well as offices for UzCargo staff, customs officers, veterinary and quarantine services, airline representatives and declarants, said Nazim Shaimardanov, Director of UzCargo.

On the first floor, in the operating room, consignees are received through an electronic queue system. Offices are located on the second and third floors. A parking lot for both cars and trucks has been created for visitors.

Uzbekistan Airports announced plans to build a new terminal in April 2024. At that time, the company said that in the second stage, by the end of 2025, it was planned to build a cargo warehouse with an area of 12 thousand square meters, including 1000 square meters. m of modern refrigeration and freezing facilities with various temperature conditions.
