There are plans to build agricultural centers in Ferghana and Kuvasai for $175 million.
As previously reported by Spot, on February 4 President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting on priority tasks for the socio-economic development of the Fergana region.
In agriculture, a task was set to increase fruit and vegetable exports to $510 million by shifting from raw exports to finished products with higher added value.
For this purpose, agrologistics centres worth $175 million will be built in Fergana and Kuvasai with the participation of Chinese investors.
In the Uzbekistan, Besharyk and Altyaryk districts, four projects worth a total of $21 million will be launched in livestock farming, dairy processing and breeding poultry production.
The president stressed the need to develop social infrastructure in line with population growth. This year, 343 billion soums have been allocated for the construction and reconstruction of 33 schools. Regional leaders were instructed to improve infrastructure by using additional opportunities and attracting the private sector.
To expand tourism potential, tourist complexes based on the Ugam and Miraki experience will be created in Sokh district, while a large tourist and recreational zone will be developed in Fergana district. New tourist facilities and cultural heritage routes will be established in Kokand.
Additionally, a convenient one-stop system for public services will be introduced in Kokand by relocating 17 government agencies to the “Yangi Uzbekistan” residential area.
In the IT sector, active development is planned as one of the key economic drivers of the Fergana region. Currently, the region hosts 139 IT Park residents.
This year, the target is to increase IT services to 3.5 trillion soums and exports to $30 million. Plans include establishing a new IT park and complex in Fergana, implementing the “Heirs of Muhammad al-Khwarizmi” project, and building an international IT university in Margilan.
Following the meeting, the president instructed that each project be implemented with a focus on employment and improving living standards, and emphasised strengthening personal responsibility for fulfilling the assigned tasks.
Earlier, Spot reported that imports of pineapples and mandarins from China were allowed into Uzbekistan until February 5.
