Uzbekistan and Georgia will switch to the electronic exchange of permits for road transportation.

A consortium of major forwarding companies will be established to build infrastructure in Georgian ports.

Uzbekistan will create its own port infrastructure in Georgia and switch to the electronic exchange of permits. Transport Minister Ilkhom Makhkamov announced this in an interview with the O‘zbekiston 24 TV channel.

According to him, the state visit of Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Georgia last week opened up new opportunities for the development of transport logistics. In particular, during the visit, the sides agreed to fully transition to the electronic exchange of permits for road transportation — both between the two countries and to third countries. This will ensure transparency, save time, and create convenience for carriers. Makhkamov emphasized that today more than 60% of Uzbek road carriers carry out transportation through Georgia.

An agreement was also reached with the railway management to expand the discount system. Previously, discounts of up to 70% applied to container transportation between six countries along the CASCA+ route; now they will also apply to other types of wagons.

«When speaking about Georgia, we must pay attention to its ports with access to the open sea, and we have agreed to create our own infrastructure in these ports», — the minister said.

The head of the Ministry of Transport noted that a consortium of major forwarding companies will be created to implement these plans. Together with Uzbek exporters and importers, it will be engaged in the construction of port infrastructure.

Earlier, Spot reported that Uzbekistan is considering participating in the construction of the Anaklia port in Georgia.
