Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan to launch electronic cargo transportation permit system
Starting in 2025, the parties will establish equal fees for national freight carriers.Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan have agreed to introduce a system for the electronic exchange of permit forms, the press service of the Ministry of Transport reported.
The agreement was reached during a working meeting held on October 29 in Bukhara with the participation of representatives of the transport departments of the two countries. The E-permit system will simplify the process of registration of transportation.
At the meeting, the parties also discussed the current difficulties faced by Uzbek freight carriers when traveling through the territory of Turkmenistan, agreeing to create an interdepartmental working group to promptly resolve emerging issues.
In addition, the parties agreed to collect fees and payments for transportation services on a parity basis. Starting in 2025, fees for national carriers of both countries will be equal, creating fair and transparent conditions for both parties.
On November 11, 2022, the E-permit electronic system was first introduced between Uzbekistan and Turkey at the initiative of the Ministry of Transport. The goal is to speed up transport operations and increase trade turnover.
In January, the President ordered to simplify the visa regime for domestic freight carriers abroad. Transport Minister Ilkhom Makhkamov was warned for unresolved logistics issues.
At the end of February, it became known that Kazakhstan offered Uzbekistan to establish an electronic exchange of permit forms (E-permit). The head of the Majilis Committee on International Affairs, Defense and Security, Aigul Kuspan, noted the principle of "not competing, but complementing."
In March, Kazakhstan announced the issuance of electronic permits for entry into Uzbekistan. It was also planned to launch a pilot mode for submitting applications from freight carriers through the online system. In April, the parties exchanged the first quotas and officially launched the E-permit system.
